Bulletin: Logan Code Amendment to Decrease River Protections- Public Hearing TODAY
The North Branch of the Logan River, known as the Little Logan River, is a jurisdictional natural stream channel and tributary to the Bear River, and hence Waters of the U.S., subject to the protections of the Clean Water Act and the State Engineer - that’s why the City applies for Stream Alteration Permits for projects impacting the Little Logan River, such as the 2012 extension of 200 East from Center Street to 300 South, and why Willow Ski Lakes Subdivision developer Brett Jensen applied for a Stream Alteration Permit in 2023 for the 1400 West culvert.
The Logan City Council Public Hearing on Tuesday 8/19/25 is for proposed code amendments to the Critical Lands Overlay Zone, which would shrink riverside setbacks for structures from 100’ to 25’, a reversal of the 2023 amendments which were promoted as an effort “to better protect critical lands” and to ensure favorable Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) ratings.
